Susie Hetherington - Textiles, prints & cards
Susie Hetherington began her career as a graphic designer, graduating from Falmouth College of Art in 2004. In her twenties Susie formed a design agency called SunHouse, near Bath, with two former colleagues, where she specialised in branding, packaging and graphic illustration. Her role there as Creative Director gave her a chance to work with some fantastic brands, both big and small, as well as lead a team of other designers. The birth of the first of three daughters in 2010 gave Susie a chance to step back from the screen and start drawing by hand again. She would photograph the nature around her, whilst on walks with her daughter, and then draw from the photos, whenever she got the chance. As her family grew she took the decision to sell her share in SunHouse, and do something with the many designs that were forming in her sketchbooks. Pattern had always appealed, and soon she learnt how to turn the sketches into pattern repeats by hand, and then tried caving them to lino to then print onto fabric. Into 2013 Susie released her first range of digitally printed fabrics based on her original drawings and lino cuts. She now works in a multi-faceted way, producing repeat prints for textiles, from which she sells fabric by the metre and a variety of other products. This is also combined with more general printmaking, which she is experimenting with more and more. She still likes to take on branding projects for local clients, and really enjoys keeping work very local to where she lives in Amberley, working round the busy lives of three young children. |
